With the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Quenton Nelson. The Notre Dame offensive guard has established himself as the most dominant offensive line prospect in years throughout the draft process. The Colts will be hoping that by investing in their offensive line early that Andrew Luck will be able to stay fully healthy in 2018.
Quenton Nelson Selected by the Indianapolis Colts
After Denzel Ward and Bradley Chubb were selected in the two picks prior, the Colts were able to address their only other major need without having to overthink things too much. Whilst it’s a little surprising that no team in need of a quarterback was able to make a trade here after Chirs Ballard came out and said that the sixth overall selection was for sale.
Nelson plays with the aggression and flawless technique indicative of a future All-Pro lineman, and if he can capture that form early then the Colts offense will improve drastically in 2018. The health of superstar QB Andrew Luck is imperative to the success of this franchise, therefore it makes sense that Indianapolis is willing to pay a premium for the most talented lineman in recent memory.
Pairing Nelson with left tackle Anthony Castonzo will allow the Colts to run the ball more efficiently whilst protecting the blindside of the former first overall pick.
