Royal Rumble Match by Match Predictions

Posted by

Fellow Sports-Stacker, Conner Fleegle and I are two days away from heading over to Philadelphia to watch the Royal Rumble. We’ve both given our opinions on the show before, but here are my match by match predictions for the entire show. Enjoy, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Royal Rumble Match by Match Predictions

The Usos (c) vs. American Alpha 2.0 in a best 2-out-of-3 falls match for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships

I was really excited for this match, and then Jey Uso was arrested for a DWI. While I’m sure the match will be a blast, it does take a bit of the fun away knowing that the Usos will almost definitely drop the straps. They were always going to exchange falls, setting up for a suspenseful final fall, but we didn’t necessarily know who was going to lock in the final submission or cover for the pin. It’ll still be a show-stealer, but you’ve gotta think the Usos drop the straps.

Winners: American Alpha 2.0

Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan (c) vs. The Bar for the Raw Tag Team Championships

I think this match is going to be really, really great. Seth Rollins is arguably the best performer in WWE, and the Bar might be the best tag team under the WWE banner. However, what is getting lost in all this is that Jason Jordan is actually a very talented wrestler in his own right. It seems like WWE is turning him heel, and so far, it’s working. I think this will be a very entertaining match and Jordan will accidentally cost Rollins the match.

Hey WWE, don’t give us Rollins vs. Jordan at Mania. I know Ambrose might not be healthy yet, but… c’mon… we deserve better than that.

Winners: The Bar

AJ Styles (c) vs. Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens for the WWE Championship

If it was just AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens or AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn, I’d be on board. I’d be like, oh shoot, title change for Mania. We might even get Owens vs. Zayn in a main event scenario! That would be so sick. But handicap matches are stupid. How many teams have actually won the handicap match? Almost never. Because that would be stupid. However, like an iron match will be decided with mere seconds left, the story is always the same.

AJ Styles will probably be beaten down, dead to rights, and the two heels will argue over who gets to make the pinfall and the champ will take advantage of the moment to fight off both men, retaining his title.

Winner(s): AJ Styles

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Kane vs. Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship

I am trying to convince myself that WWE sees how wildly popular Braun Strowman is, and that they’re going to put the strap on him. I’m not doing a very good job. I just can’t shake the feeling that we’re going to get Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania whether we want it or not. My money is on Strowman hitting the running powerslam on Kane, only for Lesnar to run in and get the pin. Or Lesnar hits one F-5 and it’s over because nobody can kick out of it until Reigns does.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

The Women’s Royal Rumble Match

This match has a lot of potential, but I’m just not optimistic. There just aren’t enough women! Nia Jax and Asuka can make serious runs, and we’re sure to get a debut or return or two, but I’m worried. Not to mention, it seems like an inevitability that Ronda Rousey will not only debut, but win here. I know, I know, Asuka’s undefeated streak is important, but she’s actually only undefeated in normal matches. Asuka has actually been eliminated from a battle royale in the past. It seems foolish to debut Ronda in this match where she’s supposed to be this unbeatable monster, only to have someone eliminate her easily. Also, hey Vince? If you’re going to put everyone who ever dabbled in MMA over your own talent? Don’t be surprised when nobody gets over.

Keep an eye out for Ember Moon, the Iconic Duo, and maybe even Trish Stratus or Kelly Kelly. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Paige came in, and all this hubbub was for nothing?

Winner: Ronda Rousey

The Men’s Royal Rumble Match

Before I jump into who I think will be winning the titular match, here are a few small predictions I have for the match itself.

Surprise Entrants:

Ethan Carter III, aka Derrick Bateman, aka Michael Hutter has all but confirmed that he’s signed with WWE, returning after a very successful stint in TNA. While I’m not sure he’s a big enough name to skip NXT, there’s always a chance WWE throws us a curveball.

Pete Dunne had an indy show the weekend of the Rumble, but had to pull out. There’s a chance that the WWE U.K. Champion makes an appearance in the rumble, but he also might just be working the NXT TakeOver show the night before.

Big Cass has been out since he tore his ACL last August on the Raw after SummerSlam. ACL’s are tricky, and who knows if he’s actually ready to return, but there’s always a chance. I’d feel a lot more confident in this prediction if Enzo Amore was still around to get eliminated. Then again, good riddance.

Kofi Kingston does something ridiculous. I mean come on, it wouldn’t be a Royal Rumble match if Kofi didn’t do some kind of crazy spot. It’s been a couple of years since he did something inventive, maybe that changes in Philadelphia.

Jason Jordan eliminates Seth Rollins/Seth Rollins eliminates Jason Jordan. Let’s be real, this partnership is terrible, and needs to end sooner rather than later. Having Rollins play the disappointed stepmother to the whiny Jordan is storytelling gold but hard to watch. The fuse was lit when Rollins accidentally his Jordan with his knee on Raw, and it’ll burn bright when they drop the tag titles. Maybe Rollins eliminates Jordan, and Jordan runs back into the ring and eliminates Rollins.

Aha! You thought I was just going to share my prediction for the winner here when I wrote an entire article about it? Hell, even the good brother, Conner Fleegle wrote an entire article about it. If you wanna see who we think will win, better click those links and give us those views.
